It's Tuesday. We leave in less than 48 hours.
Wow. Less than 48 hours. At least I have started to gather my clothes - I haven't decided exactly what I'm bringing but at least it is all in one spot.
Have to give a shout out to my friend Judy - she's from Scotland and she gave us a some good add-ons for the time that we are spending in Inverness - and coincidentally, about ten minutes from her grandparents.
Just to throw in a little bit of a monkey wrench, someone isn't feeling so great.
It started with Jess - the throat again. She went and got some antibiotics just to be sure. Now the baby has started to not feel so great. He's really snotty, his eyes are watery and he has been a bit cranky the past day or two. We kind of had a feeling that he might be teething again and this was confirmed by the doctor, who said he was and that he may have some allergy issues but she still prescribed an anti-biotic to give him in the event it seems to get worse. His ears, throat and lungs were clear and that was good - but Jess said he was congested this morning and seems a little hot. I'm hoping that he will be good to go, and Jess will be too.
Here's the problem - if either of them are really sick, it means I should be getting it some time next week and if it's strep, we are going to have a real problem. Add to that the unpredictable weather of anything can happen - from it being a 'lil warmer than it is now to being cold and raining sideways.
Yes, I said sideways.
But I am not going to stress out. The last two days at work have been very relaxing and I have gotten a number of things done and organized. Of course, there is no one here. I still would like to reiterate, it has been nice.
Back to the packing - I've gotten most of the "electronics" stuff organized, GPS, batteries for the camera, the chargers, etc. I have it narrowed down to three pairs of pants, I will wear one and then put an extra in my backpack in case I need to do a change or my stuff gets lost. The number of shirts is still a conundrum and as is the sweatshirt or jacket. Both?
Shit.
Well, I guess I know what I am going to try to figure out when I get home. In addition, I need to figure out the geocaches we will look for as well as I dunno...whatever Jess tells me we are going to need to do to get done.
I should probably make a list of all the other things I need to get done - but I doubt that will happen, and if I do, it will make me start to stress - and there's no need for that.
It's now Wednesday. We are down to like 32 hours or so. I don't know why they have us working, seriously. If I had time at work today, I would have downloaded all the geocaches for the trip - if I had time, which I obviously do not, I'm just saying I would have, if I had.
So, today after the chiropractor, we are going to go through the dry run I think. Get everything into the suitcase and pack up the backpack. Aaah, Goodfellas is on on Spike. "Henry!!! Henry!!! What kind of people are these???"
The car seat is packed up and on the travel cart, now we are just going to have to condense everything and get it in there. Did I mention I am starting to get excited? I also may be starting to get a spot on my throat. I hope this is just paranoia but you never know.
So, this time tomorrow, I expect the anxiety to kick in. That's usually when it does. It's more about excitement than I think it is anxiety - either way, it doesn't matter because in about 31 hours we are on a plane first to Reykjavik then Glasgow, after that the REAL anxiety kicks in, Jess driving on the wrong side of the car and road. Did I ever tell you about Ireland?
Our first extended family vacation. I don't count PR because it was quick and I was working but this is it, Neil and Jess, more than backpacks and a baby. If nothing else, it's gonna be interesting!
