Waterfalls, dangerous walks, a brewery and asbestos...

Today was the laziest and non-laziest day yet.  We woke up after 9 and didn't leave the place until almost 12 - maybe later.

We were deciding what to do - we had plans to go to Dornoch Castle and Dunrobin and then we thought about going to Ullapool all the way on the west coast - we scratched that because the ride was really long for the baby - we'll have to come back again.

It rained for a little for the first time since we were here.  We weren't outside so I guess it didn't matter!  As I was finishing up some plans for the walk, Jess took the baby in the garden, only to come back a minute or two later because he stepped in some fresh dog shit.  Guess who's next?

That cleaning process took a good 20 minutes for her to try to dig the shit out of the seams of his shoes.      So we decided to head up to the Black Isle and hike two areas - the first had a waterfall and the second was a longer hike in a forested area.

The hike started off great!  The little man made his own way to the falls - at least a third of a mile, maybe longer.  It doesn't sound like much, but for his tiny legs, it is.

We stopped just before the falls to have some lunch and snap some shots.  After lunch we made our way across the bridge and then continued to hike

we came across this cool tree - it's a lot cooler in person, but I assure it is cool.

We continued our hike and the baby fell asleep in the backpack and actually slept for a good half an hour or so.

We tried to find a geocache but didn't - I'm not pissed because it was in a spot that I would have hid it - and it was hidden well.  If we had more time, we would have been able to find it.

We then found some road and then a trail that took us down and out of the hiking area to parking.  Unfortunately, it wasn't the parking area we needed.

As a matter of fact, it was the parking lot we passed on the way to the one we were parked in - about, oh, I dunno, I mile and a half down the road.

So, we walked back to our parking area, up the road, the A835 - it was hot and the baby was really good, no complaints, so issues and he stayed in the backpack and gave us no problems, he was a saint.  Walking on the road, however, was not the safest decision Jess has made as a parent.  Yes, I blame Jess, because I wanted to go back on the trails the way we came.  Either way, it worked out and we did good and he was awesome.

So it was back to the car for snacks!  Someone had more than too many chocolates in his mouth, he couldn't even chew them.  He looked like a local with those teeth!

Daddy got his snack on the way back.  We had passed Black Isle Brewery and we stopped in to buy some and do the tour of the brewery.  I'm glad we did.  We hung out for an hour or so, got some beers that you can't get in the US (though I can swear I had one) and then headed home to hit TESCO, get some dinner for the night.   The brewery is on a farm and we got to see the horses below on the way in and out of the place.

During dinner, I got my first, "Are you fucking serious, dad?" look when I asked if this was how he should be sitting in the high chair:

After dinner, we headed over to pick up our special order from the Highland House of Fraser, 3m of MacNeil of Barra cloth so that we can make the baby a kilt.  We took a nice walk along the Ness - it was a perfect evening.

We have to say, Inverness was a very cool town.  Very laid back, and the fact that you can be a five minute walk from the city centre and live in a house with a yard with some property and feel like you are not in the city is a good thing.

Things we forgot about:
This was is themed, "Of fucking course..." and it is work related.  In my building, there is a charter school.  I won't bore you with the general inequalities that happen between public schools and charter school, however, they get to do whatever they want with pretty much no rules.  The one in my school is having some construction work done in their part of the building.  When this happens, the DoEs facilities division is supposed to provide us with matching funds for our school if the work is over 5k.  If it is work that benefits both schools, the matching funds will not have to be paid.  The charter tried to make it out that the work would benefit both schools.  I put an end to that and we are getting matching funds.

Anyway, the construction work began and was actually going to begin without a meeting that should have happened to ensure that all safety protocols were being followed.  Allegedly, there was not going to be any asbestos removal and all of the work was going to be clear.

About a week ago, my custodian calls to tell me that he stopped the work and sent them home because they went into a bathroom that they shouldn't have and cut a pipe that was....asbestos.  Of fucking course...when I am not there to supervise and ensure that everything happens the way it is supposed to. They did the required checks on the air quality and it's all good - but, like I said, they do whatever they want and they have to be monitored by someone, anyone.  But of fucking course, like everything, it becomes my job.
